HomeEase: Simplifying Home Interiors

A home doesn't have to be huge to be beautiful, it just needs the right people to put it together

Introduction:


The Spark It all started with the observation of how the people around me were having a hard time getting small interior jobs done right, whether it be fixing a shelf, painting a wall, or getting a small décor update. Most services were either too expensive, unreliable, or only focused on major renovations.


This begged the question, why isn't there an easy, reliable way to take care of quality small-to-medium home interiors? This question led me to create the concept of HomeEase, a 'one-stop shop' that connects customers to skilled professionals who specialise in interior work, décor, and furnishings with guaranteed quality and at a transparently priced manner.


Understanding the Problem:


Empathy and Observation Upon delving further, I realized that existing players in the category didn't satisfy this need completely. While Urban Company dealt with general home services related to plumbing or carpentry, among others, there was no concentration on complete packaged interior solutions.


Livspace works on large-scale interior projects, making them unaffordable for smaller home upgrades. Through this, I realized there was a huge gap between minor repairs and complete renovation services.


Many people wanted to redo just one room, lighten up or add certain decor elements to their rooms but didn’t know where to start. Here’s where HomeEase fits in.


Research and Design:


I started looking up how these companies work. Urban Company operates on a marketplace model: customers book individual professionals, and quality is guaranteed through reviews. Livspace offers an end-to-end interior solution, but for larger projects.


I wanted to create something in between-a packaged solution for small-to-medium interior works (₹50,000–₹3,00,000) that includes design, décor, and execution all under one roof.


With guidance from my mentor, I identified the eight key professionals required for most interior projects: designer, carpenter, electrician, plumber, painter, stone mason, décor expert, and supervisor. We have also planned a workflow starting from requirements and budgeting to design and approvals, and ending with execution, payments, and ratings for each professional.

The Prototype or Outcome:


We will be including three digital interfaces in our concept: a Customer Web App, an Admin Web App, and a Vendor Mobile App. Customers can post requirements, view sample designs, track the progress, and make payments.


Admins are responsible for handling project allocation, quality control, and communicating with customers. Vendors receive job details and updates on progress, along with feedback. We intend to implement Google Stitch for design inspiration, which will help create options for room design using sample photos.


This is a prototype that focuses on making small interiors quick, reliable, and beautiful, just like doing a stylish makeover without the stress of a full renovation.


Reflection:


What I Learned Working on this project taught me that building a business idea is not about creativity, it is about solving a real problem. I learned how to compare business models, understand customers' needs, and think practically about quality and deadlines. There was one such challenge: how to balance cost and quality.


My mentor helped me understand that proper packaging of services makes even small projects profitable and consistent. I learned the importance of teamwork and clear communication since multiple professionals are involved in one project.


Looking Ahead:


The Next Step The next step that I will make is developing a small prototype website showing how this platform might look and function. I'd also like to talk to local interior designers and small contractors for actual feedback about pricing and workflow.


In the future, I hope to expand this idea into a startup that supports local professionals and helps people make their homes beautiful without overspending.
